Preparing young minds for lifelong learning through play, exploration, and connection in God’s creation.
A Unique Early Education Experience
-
Learning from Nature, in Nature
SFS offers a fully immersive outdoor program at Sweet Mercy Farm - located near the Glenrose Nature Preserve in Spokane, WA. Children interact with the land, animals, and vegetation all while preparing for lifelong learning through play and exploration.
-
The Power of PLAY
We believe in the power of play and its ability to instill confidence, creativity, and resiliency in learners. We follow our learner’s curiosity and equip them with basic outdoor skills.
-
Quality Pedagogy
Directed by an experienced outdoor educator, Stillwater Field School uses Exploring Nature with Children, a Charlotte Mason Inspired curriculum. Students are immersed in both English and Spanish through meaningful hands-on experiences in the natural world.
What Parents are Saying
“Stillwater Field School was such an incredible experience for our son. Every teacher/staff poured so much care, thought, and intention into creating an environment where children can truly thrive.
What stands out most is how intentional everything is—from the way they teach and guide the kids to the relationships they build with each family. Our son has grown in confidence, curiosity, and independence, and we are so grateful for the role this school has played in his development.
Michelle and the entire staff genuinely love and understand children. They create a nurturing space that encourages learning, exploration, kindness, and creativity. We always felt seen, supported, and confident that our son was exactly where he needed to be.
If you’re looking for a school that is thoughtful, purpose-driven, and filled with amazing educators who truly care, Stillwater Field School is something special. We highly recommend it!”

“Our 3.5 year old daughter had the most amazing year at Stillwater! She had so many wonderful stories to tell and songs to sing each day about all she learned. She became such a resilient little person by spending so much time outside in all weather! The staff did a great job helping families select the right gear for each season. And the community was outstanding, the most incredible and nurturing teachers and the sweetest little learners! We would highly recommend Stillwater Field School to families who love the outdoors!”
-Brooke Helm
“Can't recommend Stillwater enough! We sent my son for two years and my daughter for a year - very different personalities and both THRIVED and grew so much. We chose Stillwater over the other outdoor options in Spokane because the teachers were so qualified, the space was beautiful, and we loved their emphasis on the Charlotte Mason curriculum. You can just sense the sweetest spirit in the Stillwater community and we are so thankful for what a gift this school was and has been to our entire family. 10/10.”
